On 11 September 2014, Grigiškės AB completed the “Construction of a 10 MW steam boiler using renewable energy sources at Grigiškės AB” project (project No. VP3-3.4-ŪM-02-K-02-020).
Intensive construction work, upon receipt of a permit, began in December 2013. The project covered the installation and construction of the related infrastructure for the 10 MW solid biofuel steam boiler and a 2 MW condensing economizer in the boiler house operated by Grigiškės AB at Vilniaus g. 10, Grigiškės. The project was implemented under the facility of the “Use of renewable energy resources for energy production” of the priority “Environment and sustainable development” of the Cohesion Action Plan.
Up to 5.950 million euro of structural support from the European Union’s Cohesion Fund was allocated for the project. The total project cost is about 13.6 million (excl. VAT).
The new energy facility will be beneficial both environmentally and economically. It will fully meet the demand of and supply the cheapest energy to the company’s technological steam consumers in its industrial units and ensure the satisfaction of their growing needs. The plant will also reduce the company’s dependence on imported fuels – natural gas, and increase the use of renewable energy sources for energy production demand not only in the company, but also in the Vilnius region, because the power it generates, having the status of an independent heat producer, will be sold by upgrading the supply to consumers in the Grigiškės settlements.
