Cardboard manufacturer, Grigeo Klaipėda, has signed an agreement with Pöyry Management Consulting Oy (trading as AFRY), an international engineering, design, and consulting company, which will carry out an audit of environmental, occupational health and safety, and operational processes at the company. AFRY will also provide suggestions and recommendations and draw up an action plan for the implementation of technical or operational changes.
Tomas Eikinas, CEO of Grigeo Klaipėda, remarked, “We continue to work consistently and will take urgent action to prevent situations, such as the discharge of potentially untreated sewage, from recurring in the future. An audit, carried out by international consultants, will provide an assessment of the company’s environmental, occupational health and safety situation, as well as of the sustainability of operational processes, and will help to improve currently active processes.”
For this audit, Grigeo Klaipėda chose one of the market leaders, AFRY, the Scandinavian engineering, design, and consulting company, with an extensive history of clients working in the pulp and paper manufacturing industry.
Experienced professionals of AFRY will make a comprehensive environmental, health and safety compliance audit at Grigeo Klaipėda. The scope of the audit will cover technical diagnostics of the process, evaluation of the factory performance from the environmental and health and safety perspective, diagnostics of the management process, regulatory compliance.
AFRY will make a plant performance assessment: Sewage treatment and discharge systems and all technological processes will be assessed. Sources of pollution (odour, environment air, and noise) will be identified; risk assessment procedures, and more, will be evaluated. It is expected that AFRY service will help the company to identify the improvements that will be implemented to business processes, based on the provided recommendations, in order to enable best practice in environmental, occupational health and safety, and operational process. The assigned project team will start working on 2 March 2020. It is estimated that the project will be finished in two months period.
